As a mom and a Cape Coral photographer, I know how important it is to find fun and engaging places to take your kids. Southwest Florida is full of hidden gems that make for the perfect family outings, whether you're looking for outdoor adventures, educational fun, or just a place to let the kids run wild. Here are some of my top recommendations for parents, families, and kids in SWFL!
1. Sun Splash Family Waterpark (Cape Coral) If you're looking for a way to beat the Florida heat, Sun Splash is the perfect spot! With thrilling water slides, a lazy river, and splash zones for little ones, this water park is a must-visit for families looking for a fun day in the sun. They even have a bar, so parents can relax while the kids play! You can go around the lazy river 1,000 times and still love it—I know because I lived across the street from this place when I was in elementary and middle school. We were there all the time, lol!
2. IMAG History & Science Center (Fort Myers) For a mix of education and entertainment, IMAG is the go-to place. Kids can interact with hands-on science exhibits, explore a living lab with sea creatures, and even try out a hurricane simulator! It’s the perfect spot for curious little minds.
3. Lovers Key State Park (Fort Myers Beach) I've gone here since I was a kid! This stunning natural park is great for families who love the outdoors. With kayaking, biking trails, and beautiful beaches, it’s an ideal spot for a relaxing day by the water or a little adventure in nature. Plus, the calm waters make it a safe option for young swimmers.
4. Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples (Naples) Also known as C’mon, this museum is packed with interactive exhibits designed just for kids. From a kid-sized grocery store to a water play area, it’s an incredible place to let little ones explore, learn, and play all day long.
5. Manatee Park (Fort Myers) If you want to get up close with Florida’s beloved manatees, this is the place to go! Best visited in the cooler months when the gentle giants gather in the warm waters, Manatee Park offers a unique and educational experience for the whole family.
6. Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens (Naples) A beautiful, family-friendly zoo with interactive animal encounters, boat rides through a monkey island, and lots of shaded pathways, the Naples Zoo is a great way to spend the day with the kids while learning about wildlife.
7. Bowditch Point Park (Fort Myers Beach) For a peaceful family beach day, Bowditch Point is a hidden gem. With calmer waters and plenty of nature trails, it’s a great spot for kids to explore and parents to unwind.

8. Lakes Park (Fort Myers) Lakes Park is a fantastic spot for a picnic, a bike ride, or a fun train ride through the scenic park. With large playgrounds, splash pads, and walking trails, it’s an easy favorite for families looking for a relaxing outdoor experience.
9. Mike Greenwell’s Bat-A-Ball & Family Fun Park (Cape Coral) For families who love a little competition, Greenwell’s is the place to go! With mini-golf, go-karts, batting cages, and an arcade, it’s packed with fun activities for kids and parents alike.
10. Mound House (Fort Myers Beach) For a mix of history and outdoor fun, the Mound House offers a unique glimpse into Southwest Florida’s past. Kids can explore the ancient Calusa Indian shell mound, visit the museum, and enjoy kayaking around the beautiful estuary. It’s an educational yet exciting adventure for all ages!
