Top 15 Baby Registry Items You’ll Actually Use

Writer: Jennifer ClarkJennifer Clark

As a SWFL newborn photographer, I get to meet so many new parents who are navigating the exciting (and sometimes overwhelming) world of baby gear. With so many products on the market, it can be hard to know what you’ll truly need versus what will just take up space. To help, I’ve put together a list of the top 15 baby registry items you’ll actually use—no fluff, just essentials!

1. Diapers & Wipes: You can never have too many! Whether you choose disposable or cloth, stock up on various sizes because babies grow quickly.

2. Swaddle Blankets: A good swaddle can help your newborn sleep better by providing a cozy, womb-like feel. Muslin and Velcro swaddles are parent favorites!

These are the studio favorite - https://amzn.to/4hOg6Ia

3. Onesies & Sleepers: Opt for soft, comfortable, and easy-to-snap outfits. Zipper sleepers are a lifesaver for middle-of-the-night diaper changes.

4. Baby Carrier: A hands-free way to carry your baby while getting things done? Yes, please! Choose a wrap, sling, or structured carrier that fits your lifestyle.

5. Infant Car Seat: A non-negotiable essential! You’ll need it to leave the hospital and keep your baby safe in the car.

6. Crib or Bassinet: Whether you choose a crib, co-sleeper, or bassinet, a safe sleep space is a must-have for your newborn.

7. Sound Machine: White noise mimics the sounds of the womb and helps soothe your baby to sleep—especially helpful for light sleepers. We love the Baby Shusher - https://amzn.to/42MxuZH

8. Baby Monitor: Whether audio or video, a baby monitor gives you peace of mind while your little one sleeps.

9. Breast Pump & Feeding Supplies: If you’re planning to breastfeed, a quality breast pump can be a game-changer. Don’t forget bottles, storage bags, and a nursing pillow!

10. Diaper Bag: A well-organized diaper bag makes outings with your baby much easier. Look for one with plenty of pockets and a changing pad.

11. Changing Pad & Covers: A soft, wipeable changing pad makes diaper duty more convenient—bonus points for multiple covers in case of accidents.

12. Pacifiers: Not every baby loves them, but many do! Pacifiers can help soothe your newborn and even reduce the risk of SIDS.

13. Nail Clippers or File: Baby nails grow fast and can be sharp! A gentle baby nail clipper or file helps prevent accidental scratches.

14. Stroller: A lightweight, easy-to-fold stroller makes getting out and about with your baby a breeze. Consider one that works with your infant car seat for added convenience.

15. Burp Cloths & Bibs: Babies spit up—a lot. Having plenty of burp cloths and bibs on hand will save your clothes (and theirs) from constant messes.

Final Thoughts: As a SWFL newborn photographer, I love capturing the precious first moments of a baby’s life, and I know how important it is to be well-prepared.
