Fall Family Photos in Southwest Florida: Where to Take Your Fall Photos + What to Wear

There’s just something about fall photos. 🍂

The cozy outfits, warm colors, pumpkins, golden light, and that little hint of magic that comes with the season.

Of course, living in Southwest Florida means we don’t exactly get the classic New England-style fall. You know—the orange and red leaves, crisp 50-degree mornings, and giant piles of crunchy leaves.

But honestly?

We don’t need them. 😍

Fall in Southwest Florida has its own look, and there are so many beautiful ways to create warm, cozy, colorful fall portraits right here in Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, Naples, and the surrounding areas.

Whether you prefer a styled studio setup or an outdoor session surrounded by Florida greenery, there are plenty of ways to get those perfect fall family photos.

🍁 Fall Photos at the Studio

One of my favorite things about fall sessions is getting to create completely different looks from year to year.

I’ll be using some of my favorite fall setups from past seasons along with current fall-inspired sets, so there will be plenty of options for families who want something cozy, colorful, and a little bit different.

Studio sessions are especially great if you want:

A controlled environment without worrying about Florida weather

Multiple fall setups during one session

Cozy sweaters, dresses, boots, and layered outfits

Cute photos of little ones without worrying about heat, bugs, or muddy trails

A more styled, editorial look

The ability to create a true “fall” atmosphere even when it’s 85 degrees outside 😂

And if you have more than one look in mind, booking two spots can be a fun way to get completely different galleries—especially if you want one setup that feels traditional and another that is more playful or whimsical.

🍂 Outdoor Fall Photos in Southwest Florida

If you would rather take your fall photos outdoors, don't worry—we have plenty of beautiful locations that can give your photos that warm autumn feeling.

You just have to think a little differently about “fall.”

Instead of relying on changing leaves, we can use golden light, tall grasses, oak trees, nature trails, Spanish moss, water, gardens, and warm-colored clothing to create that seasonal feeling.

Some of my favorite types of locations around SWFL include:

🌿 Lakes Park — Fort Myers

Lakes Park is one of those locations that gives you a lot of variety in one session. There are lakes, greenery, paths, gardens, open spaces, and plenty of areas where we can find beautiful natural light.

It's a great option if you want your fall photos to feel natural rather than heavily styled.

🌾 Caloosahatchee Creeks Preserve

For something a little more rustic and outdoorsy, Caloosahatchee Creeks Preserve offers wooded trails, boardwalk areas, and natural Florida scenery.

Think boots, jeans, sweaters, neutral colors, and lots of cuddly family photos.

🏛️ Downtown Fort Myers

Want something a little different?

The Downtown Ft Myers historic district and River District can be beautiful for families who want a more urban fall look.

Brick streets, historic architecture, trees, storefronts, and the river can give your gallery a completely different feel.

You could even turn your session into a little family adventure—walking around, grabbing a coffee afterward, and making an afternoon out of it.

🌴 Cape Coral Locations

There are also plenty of beautiful spots right here in Cape Coral.

Caloosahatchee Creeks Preserve (East) and places such as Four Mile Cove and waterfront parks can give you gorgeous greenery, boardwalks, tall grasses, and sunset light.

And yes—a Florida fall session can absolutely include palm trees. 😂

We're in Florida. We have to embrace it!

🎃 What Should You Wear for Fall Photos?

This is probably the question I get asked the most. My biggest recommendation? Don't try to make everyone match. Coordinate instead.

Think:

🤎 Cream

🤎 Tan

🤎 Rust

🤎 Terracotta

🤎 Mustard

🤎 Olive green

🤎 Burgundy

🤎 Dusty rose

🤎 Denim

🤎 Warm neutrals

You don't have to put everyone in orange and brown from head to toe.

A family with cream, denim, rust, tan, and a little olive green can look much more natural and timeless.

For moms, flowy dresses, textured sweaters, boots, and layers photograph beautifully.

For dads, think jeans or khakis with a button-down, sweater, or henley.

For kids, dresses, overalls, cardigans, sweaters, boots, and layered outfits are all great choices.

And if you're looking for some cute fall outfit inspiration, I've put together some of my favorite options on Amazon:

🍁 Don't Forget the Little Details

Accessories can make a huge difference in fall photos.

Think:

Boots

Hats

Scarves

Cardigans

Bows

Suspenders

Cozy blankets

Pumpkins

Baskets

Books

Fall florals

You don't need to bring all of these. Sometimes one or two little details are enough to make the session feel seasonal without looking overly themed.

🍂 What About the Weather?

This is Southwest Florida, so fall doesn't always mean chilly.

Sometimes our “fall” session is happening when it's still 80-something degrees outside. 😂

That's another reason I love having studio options available.

If you're dreaming of cozy sweaters and layers but don't want your kids melting before we even take the first photo, a studio session can be the perfect solution.

And if we do head outdoors, I always recommend choosing lighter layers and scheduling around the best light.

📸 Fall Is One of My Favorite Times to Photograph Families

Fall sessions are about more than pumpkins and pretty colors.

They're about capturing your family right now.

The little kids who won't stay little forever. The siblings who are growing up way too quickly. The missing teeth, messy hair, silly smiles, cuddles, and personalities that make your family yours.

Whether you choose one of my styled fall studio setups or an outdoor location around Southwest Florida, we'll create a gallery that feels warm, beautiful, and completely you.

And if you're thinking about Christmas photos too…

Don't wait until November to book. 😉

Fall sessions tend to fill quickly, and once we get into the holiday season, available dates disappear FAST.

I'd love to photograph your family this fall!
