When you live in or visit Southwest Florida, it’s hard to resist the call of the beach—especially when it comes to capturing beautiful family memories. As a full-time SWFL photographer based in Cape Coral, I get asked all the time: “What’s the best beach for photos?” Whether you’re after soft sand, tropical vibes, or dramatic skies, SWFL delivers in every direction.

Here are some of my favorite beach locations in Cape Coral, Fort Myers, and beyond for family photo sessions:
1. Bowditch Point Park – Fort Myers Beach
This spot checks all the boxes: white sand, sea grass, driftwood, a view of the pier, and quiet vibes. Located at the northern tip of Fort Myers Beach, Bowditch Point Park is a local favorite because it feels more secluded than the busier areas, especially around sunset. There’s even a bit of greenery to mix in those beach-meets-nature shots.
2. Bunche Beach – Fort Myers
This hidden treasure has a unique, almost untouched feel to it. If you’re into moody skies, shallow water reflections, and a peaceful, wide-open backdrop—Bunche Beach delivers. It’s especially dreamy at low tide, and it’s one of my top picks for golden hour photos that feel calm and intimate.
3. Lighthouse Beach – Sanibel Island
Sanibel’s Lighthouse Beach is a classic. The mix of the iconic lighthouse, driftwood, and seashell-covered shores makes this location versatile and full of charm. Families love how relaxed it feels, and the photo variety is amazing—especially if you love barefoot, candid shots.
4. Lovers Key State Park – Between Fort Myers Beach & Bonita Springs
A nature lover’s dream, Lovers Key is the go-to for families who want that wild, scenic beach look. From boardwalks and mangroves to stretches of untouched sand, this location is perfect for adventurous sessions where you can really roam and explore. (Bonus: There’s a restroom and rinse station too!)
5. Captiva Island
Farther out—but totally worth it—Captiva Island offers some of the most gorgeous sunsets in all of SWFL. With a laid-back, coastal village vibe and stunning skies, it’s perfect for families who want a bit of that “vacation magic” in their session.
Secret Spots, Anyone?
Over the years, I’ve found a few tucked-away beach access spots that are absolutely magical—and a little less known. These locations offer privacy, beauty, and that dreamy, untouched Florida vibe. If you want something off the beaten path, just ask—I love sharing my local secrets with clients.
