My Favorite Fort Myers Beach Photography Spot: A Hidden Gem for Sunset Photos

If you've ever had a photography session with me, you probably already know that location matters.

And after 11 years of being a professional Cape Coral and Fort Myers photographer and growing up right here in Southwest Florida, I've had plenty of time to explore.

I know the beaches. I know the parks. I know where the light hits, where the crowds tend to be, which locations work better in the morning versus evening, and — most importantly — where I can create a variety of beautiful images without spending the entire session walking from one spot to another.

One of my absolute favorite spots for Fort Myers Beach photography is a small beach access point on Fort Myers Beach. And honestly? It's one of those places that doesn't look like much when you first pull in. But once you get down to the beach, it's a completely different story. A Small Beach Access With a LOT to Offer. One of the reasons I love this particular location is that it's small and simple. There are only about eight parking spaces, which means it doesn't have the feel of some of the larger, busier beach access points. And once we're on the beach, there is SO much to work with.

There are palm trees of all different sizes scattered throughout the area, giving us tons of options for variety during a session. And then there's the palm tree. You know the one.

It's huge, swooping, and practically made for sitting on. It gives us one of those fun, relaxed photographs that looks completely different from a traditional standing-on-the-beach portrait. It's also a favorite for kids because, let's be honest, telling them to sit on a giant palm tree is a lot more exciting than telling them to stand still and smile at the camera!

The Palm Trees + Morning Light Are Gorgeous

One of my favorite things about this location is the way the sunlight works through the palm trees. Depending on the time of day, you can get these beautiful little sun rays filtering through the palms, creating warmth and depth in the photographs.

And there's another little detail that I absolutely love: The purple flowers. There are plants with beautiful purple blooms around the area that add a little pop of color against the greenery and sandy beach. The catch? They're really a morning-session perk. So if you love that look, we'll want to plan your session earlier in the day rather than waiting for sunset.

It's just another example of why knowing your photographer's favorite locations can make such a difference.

And Then There's the Beach...

Once you step past the vegetation and palm trees, you get that gorgeous Southwest Florida beach we've all come to love. Soft, white sand. A huge, open stretch of beach. Beautiful turquoise blue water. And plenty of room to let a family walk, play, run, snuggle, or simply enjoy being together without feeling like we're crammed into a tiny section of shoreline. It's especially beautiful on those bright Florida days when the sky is that incredible shade of blue that almost doesn't look real in photographs. And because the beach is so open, we can create a lot of variety without needing to move very far.

Water.

Walking shots.

Family cuddles.

Kids playing.

Couples walking hand-in-hand.

For family photography, couples photography, maternity photography, senior portraits, engagement sessions, and beach portraits, it's hard to beat.

And then we can finish with my favorite part... Sunset. This location lines up beautifully for sunset. As the sun starts getting lower, we can move toward the open stretch of beach and take advantage of that gorgeous golden light. The sky changes. The light gets warmer. The shadows soften. And suddenly that same beach looks completely different from the way it did when we started.

This is one of the reasons I love photographing families and couples here. You get a little bit of everything. We can start with the palm trees and greenery, move onto the open sand, incorporate the water, and finish with that beautiful Southwest Florida sunset. All without spending your entire session driving from location to location.

Why I Love This Spot for Photography

After 11 years of photographing families in Southwest Florida, I've learned that my favorite locations aren't necessarily the biggest or most famous ones.

Sometimes it's the smaller spots that give us the most variety.

This particular Fort Myers Beach location gives me:

And because I've been photographing in this area for so long, I know how to use the location to its fullest potential. The Best Part? You Don't Have to Know Where to Go.

One of the questions I get from clients all the time is: "Where should we take our pictures?" That's my job! You don't need to spend hours scrolling through Google Maps trying to find the perfect beach access. You don't need to know where the sun will set.

You don't need to figure out whether a location will have enough shade, enough space, or enough variety for your session. That's part of what you're hiring me for. I've spent 11 years exploring Southwest Florida and building a list of locations that I know work. And this little Fort Myers Beach spot is definitely one of my favorites.
