The Social Media Game: The Highs, The Lows, and Where I’m Focusing My Energy

If you’re a business owner, you already know—social media can be exhausting. Some days, a post takes off and reaches thousands. Other days, it feels like I’m talking to myself. And the worst part? There’s no clear reason why.

I’ve been in business for over 9 years, and I’ve always been consistent. I use all the recommended strategies—carousels, reels, trending audio, engagement questions, multiple posts a day, and daily stories. But still, the reach fluctuates wildly.

Last year, Facebook sent me a message saying my content would be shown to 40% fewer people for three months—without any explanation. Then in January, they told me I was doing great and would be shown to more people. Again, no real details. It’s like playing a game where the rules change constantly, and you’re never told why.

Shifting Focus: SEO & Website Traffic

With social media feeling unpredictable, I’ve been investing heavily in my website’s SEO instead. And I have to say, it’s paying off. My analytics show an increase in page traffic, meaning more people are finding me through Google rather than relying solely on social media.

I’ve been working on:✅ Optimizing my website content with keywords related to photography in my area✅ Updating my blog to provide valuable information for potential clients✅ Improving site speed & mobile usability so it’s easy to navigate✅ Building backlinks to increase credibility.

If you have a moment, I’d love for you to check out my websitewww.ainslie-images.com. If anything feels confusing or could be improved, I’d appreciate the feedback! Sometimes fresh eyes catch things I might not notice.

Is Social Media Still Worth It?

I’m not giving up on it, but I am diversifying my strategy. Social media is still a great tool, but I want my business growth to be sustainable, not dependent on unpredictable algorithms.

If you're also feeling frustrated with social media, I highly recommend looking at your website’s SEO. When done right, it works for you 24/7—no guessing, no algorithm shifts, just steady growth over time.
